Penny Mabey

Penny Mabey (1923-2002) was the matriarch of a large family and wife of Bunty Mabey, who was part of Mabey & Johnson, the bridge builders. The Mabey family were regular skiers, who went to Wengen, Switzerland for many years and all their children became trainees of the Downhill Only (DHO) ski club.  One of her daughters Isabel “Isy” Mabey was in the British Alpine Ski team from 1968 to 1971.

The Penny Mabey Fund was established by Penny Mabey who was an active member of the Ladies Ski Club in 1990. Each year the Penny Mabey Fund sponsors up and coming young British female skiers, who wish to fulfil their dream to become British Olympic skiers. A single award is to provide financial support to young amateur female, who shows exceptional commitment and drive to become an international skiing competitor. The selection of potential recipient is proposed by the fund’s nominator. The award is made on annual basis in accordance with the criteria of the Skiers Trust charitable objectives and Grant Award process.
